Quick decision
A threshold claim is useful only when its test geometry resembles your doorway. Roborock states up to 4 cm maximum double-layer threshold crossing for the Saros 10R and up to 8.8 cm combined for the Saros 20's specified double-layer test. Neither number is a promise that the robot will climb a single step of the same height.
Who should care about threshold design
Pay close attention if your home has raised transitions, sliding-door tracks, split-level room dividers or thick rugs. Homes with flat hard flooring should give more weight to navigation, mopping and dock maintenance instead.
How Roborock defines the Saros 20 claim
The official footnote describes a first threshold no higher than 4.5 cm, a gap deeper than 12 cm and no more than 14 cm, and a second threshold no higher than 4.3 cm. That controlled double-layer arrangement is why the combined figure must be read with care.
How the Saros 10R claim differs
Roborock presents the Saros 10R as capable of up to 4 cm maximum double-layer threshold crossing with its AdaptiLift chassis. Actual results can change with edge shape, traction, approach angle, dirt and the material surrounding the threshold.
How to measure before choosing
Record the height, width, edge profile and space on both sides of each transition. A beveled wooden strip and a narrow metal track can behave differently even at the same height. Photographing the transition next to a ruler can also help when asking the manufacturer for compatibility guidance.
Other fit checks
Confirm that the 79.8 mm robot body clears your furniture, that the dock fits its planned location and that carpet height falls within the product's intended use. No single crossing specification answers these questions.
Bottom line
Choose from the shape of your actual thresholds, not the largest combined number. The Saros 20 deserves investigation for complex two-stage transitions; the Saros 10R may be sufficient where individual obstacles fall inside its stated range.
